Varahimedia.com online news,Hyderabad, December 25th, 2024: Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India, was born on December 25, 1924, in Shinde Ki Cantonment, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. His father’s name was Shri Krishna Bihari Vajpayee, and his mother’s name was Krishna Devi. He received his primary education in Gwalior and graduated from Victoria College. Vajpayee later pursued his Master’s degree in Political Science from DAV College in Kanpur.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee also studied law (LLB) at DAV College in Kanpur. Interestingly, both he and his father studied law together and earned their LLB degrees at the same time while living in the same hostel. During his time at DAV College, the Quit India Movement was at its peak, and Vajpayee, in 1945, joined the movement. He was part of the protest against British rule and spent 24 days in jail as a result.
Vajpayee’s political career began with his involvement in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and later in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Over the course of his career, he served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha ten times and the Rajya Sabha twice. He is the only MP to have been elected from four different states—Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

On April 6, 1980, Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the national president of the BJP. He first took the oath of office as the 10th Prime Minister of India on May 16, 1996. However, due to a lack of majority, he resigned shortly thereafter. In 1998, on March 19, Vajpayee was sworn in again as the Prime Minister, and once more on October 13, 1999. In 1997, Vajpayee was appointed the Foreign Minister in the Janata Party government, where he famously delivered a speech in Hindi at the United Nations General Assembly.
Vajpayee was a visionary leader and earned respect even from opposition parties. Former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru once predicted that Atal Bihari Vajpayee would one day become the Prime Minister of India.
