Varahi media.com online news, Jamshedpur, March 4th, 2025: Tata Steel, along with its subsidiaries and employees across India, celebrated the 186th birth anniversary of its visionary founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. Revered as the ‘Father of Indian Industry,’ J N Tata’s legacy of industrial excellence and community welfare continues to inspire the Tata Group and the nation.
Jamsetji Tata’s entrepreneurial journey began in the 1870s with a textile mill, but his vision extended far beyond. He laid the foundation for India’s steel and power industries, championed technical education, and envisioned a future where industrial growth and social responsibility went hand in hand.

The celebrations across Tata Steel’s operations highlighted this enduring legacy. This year’s theme, ‘Leadership in Market, Technology, and Cost,’ underscored Tata Steel’s commitment to innovation, customer-centricity, and global competitiveness.

The flagship event in Jamshedpur began with senior officials, including N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, T V Narendran, CEO & MD of Tata Steel, Koushik Chatterjee, Executive Director & CFO, Tata Steel, Ritu Raj Sinha, MD of Tata Steel UISL, and Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President of Tata Workers’ Union, paying floral tributes at the Works Main Gate. Further homage was paid at Postal Park, with dignitaries gathering to honor the founder’s contributions.
On March 2, Chandrasekaran officially switched on the illumination at Jubilee Park, a longstanding tradition symbolizing the city’s vibrancy and Jamsetji Tata’s vision. Over 20 landmarks in Jamshedpur, including buildings and roundabouts, were adorned with colorful lights, creating a festive atmosphere. Jubilee Park will remain open to the public from March 3 to 5.
The Tata Steel Sports Division organized multiple sporting events at JRD Tata Sports Complex on March 2 and 3, encouraging employees and their families to participate in friendly competitions, reinforcing values of fitness and teamwork championed by J N Tata.

The celebrations also included the inauguration of key community projects in Jamshedpur:
- Prem Jyoti Prangan School: A modern and sustainable educational facility funded by Tata Steel.
- Pet Crematorium: The first-of-its-kind facility in the region, offering an environmentally responsible solution for pet owners.
- Spine Clinic and Stroke Unit: To be inaugurated at Tata Main Hospital on March 4, further strengthening healthcare services in the region.
At Tata Steel Kalinganagar (TSK) and Neelachal Ispat Nigam (NINL), more than 1,000 Tata Parivar members participated in week-long celebrations, including a friendly football tournament, sporting activities, and a quiz competition at the Rehabilitation & Resettlement Colony and housing colonies.
The Tata Steel Foundation, in collaboration with TSK and Ferro Alloys Plant Bamnipal, organized a volunteer initiative at Remal Dam, Odisha. Over 70 employees participated in an environmental clean-up drive, collecting approximately one quintal of single-use plastics and non-biodegradable waste.

In Meramandali, Tata Steel employees paid tribute to J N Tata with floral offerings, followed by sporting events for employees and their families. A volleyball tournament in Talbahal village was also organized to foster community engagement.
The Joda unit of Tata Steel’s Ore Mines and Quarries (OMQ) division in Odisha paid floral tributes at Joda East Iron Mine, Khondbond Iron Mine, NINL Mine, and Kalamang and Gandhalpada Project Office. Employees participated in sports activities, and fruit packets were distributed to patients at Tata Steel Main Hospital, Joda.
Through these tributes and initiatives, Tata Steel continues to honor the legacy of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, reaffirming its commitment to industrial progress, innovation, and social welfare.
