varahi media.com online news, MUMBAI, December 23, 2025: In a landmark development for the Indian healthcare sector, Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital (HNRFH) has launched the nation’s first Tele-Robotic Surgery Program. This initiative, a collaboration with the Dhirubhai Ambani Occupational Health & Community Medical Centre in Jamnagar, leverages high-speed digital connectivity from Reliance Jio to perform complex surgeries across vast distances.

The program allows elite surgeons based in Mumbai to remotely operate and guide robotic systems at partner hospitals in non-metro areas, effectively bringing world-class surgical precision to patients who previously lacked access to such advanced care.

A New Era for Rural Healthcare
The primary objective of the program is to dissolve the geographical barriers that force patients in remote regions to travel long distances for specialized treatment. By utilizing Reliance Jio’s ultra-low-latency network, surgeons can operate with real-time accuracy, significantly narrowing the healthcare gap between urban and rural India.

The inaugural tele-robotic procedure was successfully completed at the Community Medical Centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Led by HNRFH’s Director of Urology-Oncology, the surgery was supported by a multidisciplinary team in Mumbai, demonstrating a seamless integration of clinical expertise and digital infrastructure.

Technology and Innovation
The platform utilizes an indigenously developed Indian robotic surgical system, aligning with the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) vision. Key technological pillars include:

High-Speed Connectivity: Powered by Jio to ensure secure, lag-free transmission of surgical data.

Precision Robotics: Advanced systems that translate a surgeon’s hand movements into micro-movements inside the patient’s body.

Capacity Building: The program includes ongoing mentoring for local medical teams to enhance their surgical capabilities.

Leadership Insights
Dr. Tarang Gianchandani, Group CEO – Healthcare Initiatives, stated: “Advanced healthcare must not be limited by geography. We are reimagining how complex care is delivered across India. By enabling our surgeons in Mumbai to perform procedures for patients nationwide, we are taking world-class expertise to where it is needed most.”

Anish Shah, COO of Jio Platforms, emphasized the role of digital infrastructure: “By providing the secure, ultra-low-latency connectivity required for remote robotic surgeries, we are helping redefine what equitable access to advanced healthcare looks like across the country.”

As HNRFH continues to expand this network, the Tele-Robotic Surgery Program stands as a testament to how digital innovation can democratize life-saving med
