This substantial investment is set to transform the institute’s infrastructure, with a focus on developing cutting-edge facilities for students and fostering innovation. The announcement comes in light of the institute’s impressive rise to 6th position in national rankings, achieved just a year after transitioning to an Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

To commemorate Teachers’ Day, Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman of the Board of Governance at IIM Mumbai and Founder & Chairman of Allcargo Group, inaugurated the commencement of the new facilities. He emphasized the institute’s strong commitment to providing a world-class environment for students, particularly in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology.
The event was further elevated by the presence of Dr. Satheesh Reddy, President of the Aeronautical Society of India, Former Secretary of DDRND, and Chairman of DRDO, who attended the Bhumi Pujan ceremony. Dr. Reddy, a renowned figure in India’s defence sector, laid the foundation stone for the new development phase of the IIM Mumbai campus. His participation underscored the institute’s ambition to integrate real-world technological advancements with academic excellence.

Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This day will be remembered as a pivotal milestone in the history of IIM Mumbai. Our goal is to build a 21st-century campus that meets and exceeds global standards. The IIM brand, coupled with Mumbai’s strategic location, has already attracted top faculty and students from around the world. With modern infrastructure, world-class faculty, and top-notch teaching methods, IIM Mumbai will soon emerge as a global leader in management education, nurturing future leaders and entrepreneurs.”
The upcoming facilities will include a sprawling net-zero campus, featuring premium residential accommodations for faculty and students, an innovation-driven startup ecosystem, Management Development Programs, and a state-of-the-art auditorium. A cutting-edge Innovation Center will focus on banking, finance, and fintech, complemented by an AI research hub and a world-class library designed to connect students with global resources. Additionally, the campus will house a Management Training Center, offering certification courses and serving as a hub for industry leaders.

Formerly known as the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), IIM Mumbai has a rich legacy in industrial and engineering education. The institute’s rebranding as an IIM has accelerated its ascent in the academic landscape, as seen in its rapid rise to the 6th spot in national rankings. Located in India’s financial capital, IIM Mumbai has become a key player in the city’s educational and business ecosystem.
Prof. Manoj K Tiwari, Director of IIM Mumbai, outlined the institute’s forward-looking strategy, including the introduction of new courses for both students and professionals. He also highlighted partnerships with domestic and international academic communities aimed at fostering knowledge sharing and global collaboration.
Established in 1963, IIM Mumbai (formerly NITIE) boasts a scenic 65-acre campus with lakes on three sides, accommodating over 1,200 students. The leadership of Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty and Prof. Manoj K Tiwari has been instrumental in driving innovation in logistics, supply chain management, and supporting the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. IIM Mumbai’s industry-aligned programs continue to shape national policies and contribute to the vision of a “New India.”

Mr. Shetty added, “We are confident that this project will garner support from leading companies through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. It will set new benchmarks in educational infrastructure and align with our vision of establishing IIM Mumbai as a global leader in innovation and sustainable development. This initiative reflects India’s growing leadership role, both domestically and on the world stage.”
This major development signifies IIM Mumbai’s mission to create a campus that fosters technological, managerial, and entrepreneurial growth, making it a premier global institution.
