Varahi media.com online news,Tirupati, 16 March 2025: Potti Sriramulu, the driving force behind the formation of linguistic states in India, deserves the nation’s highest civilian honor, Bharat Ratna, asserted Sri Venugopal, former Director of All India Radio.

Speaking at the 124th birth anniversary celebrations of Amara Jeevi Sri Potti Sriramulu at Annamacharya Kalamandiram in Tirupati, Sri Venugopal highlighted his immense contributions.

Born in Chennai, Potti Sriramulu worked in the railways in Mumbai before joining Gandhiji’s Sabarmati Ashram. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he actively participated in the Salt Satyagraha and Quit India movements, enduring multiple imprisonments.

Sri Venugopal further recalled that Potti Sriramulu played a significant role in allowing Harijans entry into temples, following Gandhiji’s ideals. His historic fast, which began at Sri Bulusu Sambamurthy’s residence on Rayapeta Road, Chennai, ultimately led to his supreme sacrifice for the formation of Andhra Pradesh.

Recognizing his unparalleled dedication to social causes and the Andhra movement, Sri Venugopal firmly stated that Potti Sriramulu should be honored with the Bharat Ratna.

The event also saw speeches from several TTD employees, while earlier, dignitaries paid floral tributes to Potti Sriramulu’s portrait. Welfare Department Deputy EO Sri Anandaraju and other officials participated in the program.
