Varahi media.com online news,November 13,2024: US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Pete Hegseth, an Army veteran and television personality, as his Defence Secretary. This marks another significant move in filling key positions within his upcoming administration.
In an official statement, the Trump-Vance transition team praised Hegseth’s qualifications, calling him “tough, smart, and a true believer in America First.” The statement continued, “With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice—our military will be great again, and America will never back down.”
Hegseth’s appointment is of particular interest to India, given the growing defense and diplomatic ties between the two nations. This includes the annual 2+2 meeting between foreign and defense ministers, joint military exercises, and cooperation in defense technology and production.

Other notable appointments for the Trump administration include Mike Waltz, a Republican congressman and co-chair of the India Caucus in the House of Representatives, who has been named National Security Advisor.
Pete Hegseth, a graduate of Princeton University with a graduate degree from Harvard, is a decorated Army Combat Veteran. He has served in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, and Afghanistan, earning two Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantryman’s Badge for his bravery.
In addition to his military career, Hegseth has worked as a host on Fox News for eight years, advocating for the military and veterans. His recent book, The War on Warriors, spent nine weeks on the New York Times best-sellers list, including two weeks at number one. The book critiques the left-wing treatment of military veterans and calls for a return to meritocracy and excellence in the military.
Hegseth has also led two veterans’ advocacy organizations and is a staunch supporter of the “peace through strength” policy, pledging to fight for veterans and military personnel.
