Varahi media.com online news,March 19th, 2025: In a move to deepen academic collaboration between New Zealand and India, New Zealand Prime Minister Hon. Christopher Luxon led an education-focused event at IIT Delhi. The event highlighted the growing partnership between the two nations and celebrated the New Zealand Centre, a key initiative uniting all New Zealand universities with IIT Delhi.
One of the major announcements was a NZ$260,000 partial scholarship package under the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) 2025, reinforcing New Zealand’s commitment to Indian students. Additionally, a Virtual Internship Programme was introduced, offering 30 IIT Delhi students remote internships with New Zealand-based companies. This initiative will provide students with cross-border industry exposure and insights into New Zealand’s innovative work culture.

The event also emphasized ongoing joint research efforts in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, disaster resilience, and advanced engineering. A standout collaboration between the University of Canterbury and IIT Delhi is leveraging geospatial data for climate change mitigation, aligning with India’s national sustainability goals.
Looking ahead, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Indian and New Zealand institutions will be signed to enhance student mobility, academic exchange, and joint research.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said, “New Zealand and India share a strong academic partnership that fosters cultural exchange and academic excellence. Our goal is to equip students with the skills needed for success in a globally connected world. Through these initiatives, we are strengthening ties and empowering future leaders.”
Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, emphasized the significance of these collaborations, stating, “Our partnership with New Zealand has enabled valuable knowledge exchange, joint research, and student mobility. With a focus on sustainability and disaster resilience, we are tackling real-world challenges through innovation. The Virtual Internship Programme and expanded research collaborations will further enrich our students’ global exposure and industry experience.”
