Varahi media.com online news, September 15th,2025: The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has partnered with Amazon India to launch #ScamSmartIndia, a nationwide campaign to protect consumers from online scams and fraud. This collaboration aims to educate citizens on how to identify and avoid scams through a mix of public awareness and technology.
The campaign will use several methods to reach consumers in the coming months, including:
- Social media content that simplifies complex scam scenarios into easy-to-understand safety tips.
- Digital ads that deliver safety advisories to millions of households.
- Educational flyers included in Amazon packages to serve as personal safety reminders.
- Weekly multilingual tips during the “Scam-Free September” initiative, focusing on safe festive season shopping.
- A national hackathon to develop AI-powered solutions for scam detection and prevention.
A Joint Commitment to Consumer Safety

Nishant Kumar, Director of I4C, highlighted that the festive season, while a popular time for shopping, is also a period of heightened fraudulent activity. He stated that the partnership with Amazon will help consumers, especially first-time internet users and senior citizens, learn how to detect and avoid scams.
Rakesh Bakshi, Vice President – Legal, Amazon India, emphasized that customer trust is Amazon’s top priority. He noted that scammers not only harm businesses but also damage consumer confidence in the entire digital economy. This partnership with I4C is a proactive step to empower shoppers to recognize, avoid, and report scams.
This collaboration is especially timely as a recent McAfee report found that over half of all fraud cases in India happen online, with the risks being particularly high during festive shopping seasons. The initiative builds on Amazon’s existing efforts to conduct workshops and educate customers on safe online practices.
