As per official sources, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the re-appointment of Sankar for a one-year term, effective from May 3, 2025, or until further notice. The decision was conveyed through a government order dated April 21.

Key Roles and Contributions

T Rabi Sankar was first appointed as Deputy Governor of the RBI in May 2021 for a three-year term. Prior to this, he served as Executive Director, overseeing critical departments such as:

• Payment and Settlement Systems
• Information Technology
• Fintech
• Risk Monitoring

His expertise has been instrumental in strengthening India’s digital payments ecosystem and financial technology frameworks.

International and Strategic Involvements

From 2005 to 2011, Sankar worked as a consultant to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), focusing on the development of government bond markets and debt management strategies across various emerging economies.

In addition to his duties at the RBI, he currently serves in several prominent roles:
