Varahi Media Online News, February 23, 2025: The Home Ministry has addressed circulating rumors regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). It clarified that registering a marriage under the UCC does not grant an individual a residence certificate. The ministry emphasized that marriage registration or any related process under the UCC is not connected to obtaining state domicile status. Legal action will be taken against those disseminating false information.

Clarification on Uniform Civil Code Provisions

Government Initiates Lokayukta Appointment Process

In related developments, the Uttarakhand government is progressing towards appointing a Lokayukta. A recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami resulted in the decision to form a selection committee responsible for appointing the Lokayukta and its members. The government has been directed to prepare a panel of officials for this purpose.

Discussions also covered the appointment of a new Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioner for existing vacancies. Another meeting will be scheduled soon to finalize the selection process. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s official residence, was attended by Opposition Leader Yashpal Arya and other committee members.
