Varahi media.com online May 12th,2025: Telugu cinema fans are in for a nostalgic celebration as the iconic socio-fantasy film Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari is set for a grand theatrical re-release on May 9 in stunning 4K 2D and 3D formats. Marking its 35th anniversary, this legendary classic continues to hold a special place in the hearts of millions for its magical storytelling, mesmerizing visuals, and unforgettable music.
Directed by the legendary K. Raghavendra Rao and produced by Ashwini Dutt under the prestigious Vyjayanthi Movies banner, the film featured two of Indian cinema’s most celebrated stars-Megastar Chiranjeevi and the ethereal Sridevi. The film’s timeless appeal is a testament to the cinematic brilliance of the team behind it.
A Magical Reunion of Legends
Ahead of the re-release, the trio-Chiranjeevi, Raghavendra Rao, and Ashwini Dutt-came together for a special interview titled The Magical Reunion. The heartfelt conversation was filled with memories, untold stories, and emotional moments from the making of the film.
On revisiting the film after 35 years:
- Raghavendra Rao: “It feels like we’re stepping into heaven again. The film gave us all an eternal bond.”
- Chiranjeevi: “Hard to believe it’s been 35 years. Every scene, every moment still feels fresh.”
- Ashwini Dutt: “My heart fills with gratitude. Tears roll down my eyes thinking of that beautiful journey.”

On working with Sridevi:
- Chiranjeevi: “Though we had worked together in Rani Kasula Rangamma and Mosagadu, it was in JVAS that our chemistry truly shined.”
On making the film during tough times:
- Raghavendra Rao: “I was coming off a string of flops. But Dutt garu and Chiranjeevi garu showed unwavering faith in me.”
- Chiranjeevi: “Despite advice against it, we insisted only Raghavendra Rao garu would direct it. Or else, no film!”
Ilaiyaraja’s Musical Genius
Every song from JVAS was a chartbuster. The music, composed by Maestro Ilaiyaraja, remains evergreen.
- Raghavendra Rao: “Ilaiyaraja garu brought a whole new soundscape to Telugu cinema.”
- Chiranjeevi: “Songs like Abbani Theeyani Debba were composed in just a few hours and became instant classics.”
The song Dhinakutta was shot under extreme circumstances—with Chiranjeevi battling a high fever of 105°F. Despite his condition, he completed the shoot and was hospitalized immediately afterward.

Crafting Visual Wonders Without VFX
The team recounted how visual marvels were created without modern-day technology. Art director Chalam recreated Kashmir-like snow scenes on a studio floor, and cameraman Vincent used clever tricks like Vaseline and polythene to create magical visuals.
- Chiranjeevi: “That iconic shot of Sridevi flying to her celestial world was done in less than a day—no VFX. That’s the genius of Vincent garu.”

A Film That Cannot Be Remade-Or Can It?
- Raghavendra Rao: “Even during a cyclone, people rushed to theatres. That craze cannot be recreated.”
- Chiranjeevi: “Just like the mystery of ‘Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?’, JVAS left a question-‘What happened to the ring eaten by the fish?’”
When asked who could reprise their roles in a sequel or remake:
- Chiranjeevi: “Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor would be a perfect pair. Ashwini Dutt garu’s daughters should produce it, and Nag Ashwin should direct-under the guidance of Raghavendra Rao garu. That would be historic.”
Ram Charan Joins the Legacy Conversation
In a surprise moment, Ram Charan joined the discussion and praised the dream team behind JVAS.
- “Legends like Ashwini Dutt garu, Raghavendra Rao garu, Ilaiyaraja garu, Vincent garu, and Paruchuri Brothers-what a collaboration! Maybe I became a Hanuman devotee after listening to Jai Chiranjeeva Jagadeka Veera as a child,” he said.
Charan added to the excitement, saying:
- “We still want to know what happened to the ring and the fish. There’s only one person who can answer tha-Nag Ashwin. We’re not requesting, we’re demanding!”
As Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari hits the theatres once again, it invites a new generation to experience its magic alongside their parents. A film that once redefined Telugu fantasy cinema is back-grander and more enchanting than ever.
