Varahi media.com online news,National, May 28, 2025:IndiGo, India’s leading airline, today announced the appointment of Mr. Vikram Singh Mehta as the new Chairman of the Board of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo). Mr. Mehta, who has been serving as a Board Member since May 2022, takes over from Dr. Venkataramani Sumantran, who completed his five-year term.
Dr. Sumantran, who assumed the Chairman position in May 2022, played a vital role in steering IndiGo’s board through a robust recovery and impressive growth phase post the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Vikram Singh Mehta began his career in 1978 with the Indian Administrative Services (IAS), serving for two years before transitioning into the corporate sector. He currently chairs the public policy think tank, the Centre for Social and Economic Progress, and previously served as Executive Chairman of Brookings India as well as Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

With extensive leadership experience, Mr. Mehta has held prominent positions such as Chairman of the Shell Group of Companies in India and CEO of Shell Markets and Shell Chemicals in Egypt. His corporate governance experience includes board memberships with Colgate Palmolive (India) Limited, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, and Larsen & Toubro Limited.

Mr. Mehta has earned several accolades, including being named “Businessman of the Year” by Asia House in 2010 and “Best Independent Director” in India by the Asia Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability in 2016. Academically, he holds a Mathematics degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, and two master’s degrees — in Politics and Economics from Oxford University, and in Energy Economics from Tufts University.
