Varahi meedia.com online news,India,April 10, 2025:Global filtration leader Mann+Hummel has significantly upgraded its manufacturing efficiency and cut operational costs by over $160,000 annually after overhauling its aging compressed air system. This transformation was achieved in partnership with Pattons Inc. (USA), a subsidiary of Elgi Equipments Limited (BSE: 522074 | NSE: ELGIEQUIP), leveraging ELGi’s cutting-edge air compressors and dryers.
With a presence across multiple industries—from automotive and agriculture to data centers and food & beverage—Mann+Hummel heavily depends on clean, stable compressed air. Previously, an outdated system caused 20+ air-related downtimes per day, 30 gallons of water contamination per hour, and extensive production delays and quality issues.
“When an air system fails, it doesn’t just halt production — it causes ripple effects across the entire supply chain,” said Steven Owens, Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering at Mann+Hummel.

To address the issues, Mann+Hummel installed five ELGi EG-160 rotary screw compressors (three fixed-speed, two VFD), three ELGi AR-2350 air dryers, and Airmate air receivers. A smart automation layer was added through Airmatics Smart Control System, optimizing output and energy consumption. During the 12-week upgrade, Pattons provided rental compressors, avoiding nearly $500,000 in potential downtime losses.

The results were immediate.
“It was like switching on a brand-new plant,” Owens noted. “Stable air pressure, no more sudden drops or moisture contamination—it completely transformed our operations.”
The enhanced system also improved product quality. Earlier, excess moisture damaged components and caused false failures during air integrity tests. Post-upgrade, defects and customer complaints sharply dropped, leading to more consistent output.
Clearing a COVID-induced backlog of 6 million units, the air system revamp became a turning point.
“Reliable equipment was the key to recovery,” said Owens. “This wasn’t just about saving money—it fundamentally changed how we run our operations.”

Additionally, Pattons helped Mann+Hummel qualify for a $300,000 rebate through Duke Energy by meticulously validating energy savings data, including performance metrics and heat recovery analysis.
“We didn’t settle for a flat rebate—we worked every angle,” said Trey Carter, Systems Specialist at Pattons. “This project paid off in every way imaginable.”
