365Telugu.com online news, India,March 11th, 2025: In the lead-up to World Sleep Day, YouGov and Amazon Alexa have unveiled key insights from a survey analyzing sleep routines across Indian households in 10 cities*.
The study highlights that 53% of respondents experience sleep-related issues when they don’t follow a consistent bedtime routine. However, the good news is that structured nighttime habits can make a difference-54% of adults reported improved sleep quality when adhering to a regular sleep schedule.
Over Half of Respondents Maintain a Consistent Bedtime Routine

The survey found that 52% of respondents follow a consistent bedtime and pre-sleep habits, signaling a growing awareness of sleep health. Additionally, 86% begin their bedtime routine after 8 PM, with 53% starting post-10:30 PM.
When it comes to pre-sleep activities, the most common habits include:
- Watching video content (63%)
- Connecting with family and friends (59%)
- Listening to podcasts, music, or audiobooks (58%)
- Scrolling through social media apps (57%)
Among different household types*, couples-only households were most likely to engage in these activities before bedtime.

Voice Assistants Gain Popularity in Sleep Routines
The study also highlights the increasing role of voice assistants in shaping bedtime habits, with one in two respondents using them as part of their sleep routine. Notably, individuals aged 35-45 are more likely to use voice assistants than those aged 25-34.

“Sleep routines are gaining traction, and smart technologies, especially voice assistants like Alexa, are becoming valuable tools in helping people establish and maintain their bedtime habits. From playing meditation sessions and relaxing sounds to controlling smart home devices, Alexa is increasingly being integrated into nightly routines,” said Teena Sidana, Country Manager, Alexa India.
Couples & Families Rely More on Voice Assistants for Sleep Setup
The findings reveal that households with couples and kids are more inclined to use voice assistants to support their sleep routines compared to other household types. Key uses include:
- 45% leveraging voice assistants for music, podcasts, meditation, and audiobooks
- 23% setting reminders and alarms
- 22% controlling smart home devices such as bedroom lights, automated curtains, or smart ACs
Growing Interest in Meditation, Journaling, and Wellness Activities
While only 27% currently engage in meditation or journaling before bed, the study suggests that interest in such wellness activities is on the rise. More than 50% of respondents expressed a desire to incorporate relaxation techniques like guided meditation, light exercise, skincare routines, and journaling into their nightly rituals. Notably, 32% of couples (with and without kids) showed a stronger preference for these habits.

Additionally, 21% of respondents currently snack before bedtime, with 34% wanting to include a relaxing beverage or snack as part of their routine. Other activities respondents wish to adopt include reducing phone usage by engaging in brain games, puzzles, reading, and listening to daily news updates.
Interestingly, 11% of respondents admitted they prefer doing nothing at all instead of following a structured sleep routine.
