Varahi mdia.com online news, Noida, 18th February 2025: The Habitats Trust, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to conserving India’s natural ecosystems and indigenous species, has announced the launch of the 8th edition of The Habitats Trust Grants.
This year’s edition introduces the THT Research Grant, designed to support interdisciplinary research in ecological, social, and technological aspects of conservation.

Applications are open from February 15 to March 17, 2025, with the final grant recipients set to be announced in October 2025. Interested individuals and organizations can apply at www.thehabitatstrust.org. Marking the largest funding cycle in the initiative’s history, this year’s grants exceed ₹3.5 crore, supporting conservation projects across India.

Grant Categories & Funding
- THT Conservation Grant – ₹1 crore each for two organizations with a minimum of five years of conservation experience. This grant addresses habitat degradation, biodiversity loss, and human-wildlife conflict.
- Last year’s recipient: Dr. Umesh Srinivasan and Dr. Anubhab Khan (Indian Institute of Science), along with Millo Tasser and the Singchung Village Council, for their work in Arunachal Pradesh conserving the critically endangered Bugun Liocichla, found in a single location with only 14-20 known individuals.
- THT Action Grant – ₹25 lakh each for three projects focusing on lesser-known species and habitats.
- Previous awardees include:
- Divya Panicker, a cetacean and bioacoustics expert studying endangered blue whales in Lakshadweep using passive acoustic monitoring.
- Malyasri Bhattacharya, working to protect critically endangered vultures in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, through community-led ecotourism.
- Durgapur Wildlife Information and Nature Guide Society, safeguarding Indian grey wolves in West Bengal through community-driven conservation efforts.
- Veditum India Foundation, addressing environmental governance in Madhya Pradesh to protect riparian habitats critical for species like gharials, Gangetic dolphins, and Indian skimmers.
- Previous awardees include:
- THT Research Grant (New for 2025) – ₹40 lakh each for two research organizations over two years, focusing on conservation challenges through interdisciplinary studies. This grant bridges the gap between research and real-world conservation action.
- THT Seeds Grant – Up to ₹3 lakh per month for short-term conservation projects targeting lesser-known species and underexplored habitats.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of scientists and conservation experts, assessing projects on impact potential, stakeholder involvement, scalability, and sustainability.
Beyond its grants, The Habitats Trust actively engages in large-scale conservation efforts in collaboration with NGOs, the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Coast Guard. Ongoing projects include marine conservation, habitat restoration in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, and the protection of species like the Hoolock Gibbon.
