Varahi media.com online news, November 22nd,2024: On Thursday, November 21, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a special session of the Guyanese Parliament, marking the 14th instance of him speaking before foreign legislative bodies.
This achievement sets a record for the highest number of foreign Parliament addresses by any Indian Prime Minister.
Officials highlighted that Prime Minister Modi’s tally of 14 addresses is double the number of speeches delivered by his predecessor, Manmohan Singh. In comparison, Indira Gandhi addressed foreign Parliaments four times, while Jawaharlal Nehru delivered three such speeches.
Rajiv Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee each addressed foreign legislatures twice, with leaders like Morarji Desai and P.V. Narasimha Rao speaking only once.
Since taking office in 2014, Modi has delivered speeches in legislative chambers across the globe, spanning continents from the Americas to Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia. According to officials, these addresses reflect India’s growing influence on the world stage.
Modi has addressed the U.S. Congress twice-once in 2016 and again in 2023. His global outreach began in 2014 with speeches in the Parliaments of Australia and Fiji, followed by an address in the British Parliament in 2015. The same year, he also spoke before Mauritius’s National Assembly. In 2018, he addressed Uganda’s Parliament.
In Asia, Modi has spoken in the Parliaments of Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Afghanistan, and the Maldives, further cementing his diplomatic reach.
