Varahi media.com online news,National, July5th, 2025: IndiGo, India’s preferred airline, has announced the appointment of Mr. Amitabh Kant as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation Limited, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.

Mr. Kant, a highly respected former Indian bureaucrat, is well known as a governance reformer and geo-political strategist who has been instrumental in transformative nation-building initiatives including Make in India, Startup India, Incredible India, and the ‘God’s Own Country’ tourism campaign.

A 1980-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Kerala cadre, Mr. Kant’s distinguished career spans over four decades. Most recently, he served as India’s G20 Sherpa to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, helping deliver the historic New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, which prioritized global issues ranging from climate finance to geopolitics, digital public infrastructure, and transformative technology.

Mr. Kant also served as the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog for six years, where he successfully spearheaded initiatives such as the Aspirational Districts Program, helping transform many backward districts into top performers-a success story recognized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). His leadership portfolio includes roles on the boards of the National Highways Authority of India and the National Statistical Commission of India, among others.

He is also known for his cultural and tourism leadership, branding Kerala as ‘God’s Own Country’ and developing the Incredible India campaign, both of which created a multiplier effect on tourism and economic growth. Additionally, he has championed major infrastructure projects, including the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and the expansion of Calicut Airport.
