Varahi media.com online news,New Delhi, August 25, 2025: Amazon India today announced the expansion of its Project Ashray, in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), with the launch of 40 new Ashray Centers across the country. The latest facility in Rohini, Delhi, was inaugurated by Shri Yogender Chandolia, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, North West Delhi, along with senior leaders from HPCL and Amazon.
With this milestone, Amazon now operates 65 Ashray Centers in 13 cities, including 24 in Delhi NCR, moving closer to its target of establishing 100 centers by the end of 2025.
Ashray Centers serve as dedicated rest stops for delivery partners, offering air-conditioned seating, clean drinking water, mobile charging points, clean washrooms, first-aid kits, and other essential amenities. Importantly, these centers are open free of cost to all delivery personnel across India’s e-commerce ecosystem, not just those associated with Amazon. Since their launch in late 2024, Ashray Centers have seen a 70% rise in usage.
Shri Yogender Chandolia, Hon’ble MP, North West Delhi, said:
“Project Ashray is exactly what India’s growing gig economy needs. By supporting delivery professionals, who form the backbone of digital commerce, these centers contribute to both worker welfare and national economic progress. Such initiatives highlight the immense value delivery associates bring to our society.”

Salim Memon, Director, Amazon Operations, India, added:
“The wellbeing of our delivery partners is a top priority. Ashray Centers provide them comfort and care as they work through tough conditions. Partnering with HPCL helps us scale this initiative faster, ensuring support for delivery associates across companies who keep India’s digital economy moving.”
Murali Krishna V Vadrevu, Executive Director, Non-Fuel Business, HPCL, said:
“By reimagining our fuel stations with Amazon, we’re creating safe and dignified rest spaces for India’s gig workforce. These centers recognize the human effort behind every doorstep delivery.”
Expanding for the festive season
Amazon is also preparing for India’s festive demand surge by creating 150,000+ seasonal opportunities across its operations network in over 400 cities. These include roles in fulfillment centers, sortation hubs, and last-mile delivery. Many of these opportunities have been extended to women and over 2,000 persons with disabilities (PWDs), reinforcing Amazon’s commitment to inclusive growth.
