Varahi media.com online news,Mumbai, September 10, 2025: In a groundbreaking achievement for India’s mining and construction equipment industry, an all-women team from Larsen & Toubro’s Construction & Mining Machinery (L&T CMB) division has successfully commissioned a massive 100-ton dump truck at Tata Steel’s Noamundi iron ore mine in Jharkhand.

This marks the first time in India that a machine of such magnitude and complexity has been fully assembled, tested, and commissioned by an all-women team of technicians. The accomplishment highlights L&T’s commitment to promoting gender inclusivity and empowering women in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

The Komatsu HD785-7, a 1200-horsepower dump truck commissioned by the team, is one of the largest in its class, equipped with advanced features like variable horsepower control, automatic retard speed control, and KOMTRAX Plus telematics.

The commissioning process, completed between July 28 and August 2 in just six days, overcame challenges posed by heavy monsoon rains. The team executed tasks with precision, from axle mounting to hydraulic integration. The engine was started on August 1, with full system integration completed by August 2.

On August 18, the machine was ceremonially handed over to Tata Steel, where it was received by an all-women operator crew, symbolizing a powerful moment of continuity. Women engineers prepared the machine, and women operators will now drive it in production.

The L&T CMB commissioning team included Alisha Jerai, Anamika Kerai, Banashree Mondal, Monorama Banerjee, Nutan Bobanga, Priyanka Biswas, Ruby Sharma, Sanjana Sarkar, Sasi Kumari Mahato, and Soma Karmakar. Their success showcases L&T’s comprehensive training ecosystem, combining technical instruction, mentorship, and hands-on experience.

Reflecting on the experience, Ruby Sharma shared, “At first, we were unsure if we could handle certain tasks. But as we progressed, we realized we could complete each step successfully.”

Sanjana Sarkar added, “It was an incredible feeling to commission this massive dumper and hand it over to a woman driver. Knowing a team of women brought this giant machine to life fills us with immense pride.”

Mr. Arvind K Garg, Advisor to the L&T CMD, praised the team, stating, “This achievement shows that when given the opportunity, women don’t just break barriers—they take ownership and surpass expectations. This team’s work is more than commissioning a machine; it’s a transformative moment for the mining sector.”

The Komatsu HD785-7 will now transport iron ore at the Noamundi mine, but its legacy is already cemented as a symbol of determination, training, and empowerment—a testament to the women who brought this steel giant to life.
