varahimedia.com online news, November 3rd,2024: Apple has solidified its status as the leading brand in global tablet shipments for the third quarter of 2024, according to a recent report from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
The IDC Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker report for the quarter ending in November indicates that Apple’s iPad shipments increased by 1.4% year-on-year, reaching 12.6 million units compared to 12.4 million in Q3 2023. Samsung took the second spot in global tablet shipments, while Huawei made significant strides, climbing to fourth place.
Despite the growth in shipments, Apple’s market share fell to 31.7% in Q3 2024, down from 37.7% during the same period last year. The rise in sales is attributed to heightened demand for Apple’s iPad devices, which have undergone multiple hardware upgrades in recent months. The entire iPad lineup is now powered by the company’s Arm-based M-series chips, providing superior performance and efficiency compared to competing Android tablets.
Samsung secured the second position with 7.1 million tablet shipments, up from 6 million the previous year, achieving an 18.3% year-on-year growth. However, its market share decreased slightly from 18.2% in Q3 2023 to 17.9% in Q3 2024. Analysts suggest that Samsung’s success is largely due to the commercial performance of the Galaxy Tab A9 series rather than its flagship Galaxy Tab S10 series.
According to the IDC report, Amazon claimed the third position with 4.6 million units shipped in the third quarter, marking it as the best-performing company in the category with a remarkable 111.3% year-on-year growth compared to 2.2 million devices shipped in the same quarter last year. Amazon’s market share also rose significantly from 6.6% to 11.6%.
Huawei ranked fourth with 3.3 million tablet shipments, an increase from 2.3 million last year, achieving a 44.1% year-on-year growth. The company’s market share rose from 6.9% last year to 8.2% in Q3 of this year. Additionally, Lenovo saw its shipments grow from 2.6 million to 3 million, registering a 14.7% year-on-year increase, although its market share decreased slightly to 7.6% from 8%.
Overall, tablet shipments worldwide experienced a year-on-year growth of 20.4%, totaling 39.6 million devices across all leading brands.
